This is a typical German castle. With its exquisite shape, gorgeous decorations, elegant lines, and bold colors, this building has become a model of single-story villas in China. During the German occupation period, it served as the official residence of the Governor's Mansion. Since the governor at that time was equivalent to the "Tidu" (provincial military commander) in the Qing and Ming dynasties, a provincial-level commander of the Chinese army, the building was thus called the "Tidu Mansion". In 1934, it was officially renamed "Guest House" and became an important venue for receiving distinguished guests in military and political fields.
